Question 1: Citizenship

Are you:

  • Based on your response, you are not eligible to access a VET Student Loan.

The VET Student Loans Program is only available to Australian citizens, qualifying New Zealand citizens, or permanent humanitarian visa holders who are residing in Australia.

You may wish to talk to your training provider to discuss alternative payment options for your studies or check with your local state or territory government for any state-based funding and assistance initiatives.

Your name:

Question 2: Age

Are you over 18 years of age?

  • Don’t worry, you may still be eligible for a VET Student Loan. Students under the age of 18 will need to provide a parental consent form or specific evidence of their independence.

Not all courses and training providers are approved for the VET Student Loans (VSL) program, so your selections may not be listed below. If your selections aren't listed, or you're simply not sure right now, you can leave these questions blank and go to Question 3 to check your overall VSL eligibility.

Question 3a: Approved course

What VET Student Loans approved course are you planning to study? ?

Question 3b: Approved provider

What is the name of the VET Student Loans approved training provider you intend to study with? ?

Note: If your training provider is not listed, and you are studying at a Diploma level or above, it is likely that you will not be eligible for student payments from Centrelink. You must be studying an approved course at a training provider that is approved for VET Student Loans to get student payments from Centrelink.

Question 4: HELP loan limit

Have you previously accessed FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP or  VET Student Loans at any time, or accessed HECS-HELP after 1 January 2020? ?

Question 4a: HELP balance

Do you have enough HELP balance remaining (this is the amount of HELP limit you have available to you)? ?

  • You are not currently eligible for a VET Student Loan as you have indicated that you have reached your HELP loan limit. You may wish to talk to your training provider to discuss alternative payment options for your studies.

Note: Your HELP balance is renewable. Any compulsory or voluntary amounts that are repaid from the 2019-20 income year onwards can be re-borrowed, up to the HELP loan limit. Repayments will credit your available HELP balance once the Australian Taxation Office notifies the Department of the payment.

Complete these questions and download your VSL Eligibility Tool Report for more information.

Question 5: Entry requirements

Have you completed:

  • Don’t worry, you can complete a literacy and numeracy test with your training provider. Contact your provider for more details.

Question 6: Tax File Number

Do you have an Australian Tax File Number (TFN)?

  • You will need to have attained a TFN, or be able to provide evidence of your application for a TFN from the ATO, by the time you apply for a VET Student Loan with your chosen training provider.

Question 7: Unique Student Identifier

Do you have a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?

  • You will need a USI in order to enrol in your course and receive your qualification or statement of attainment. Visit the USI website for more information.
