Training Provider Summary

The hallmark of the Australian 4WD Academy is training by experts with a hands-on, in depth knowledge of 4WD driving in all conditions. Our instructors all hold a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. The training courses cover everything from the most simple tasks right through to advanced recovery techniques.


From our base on the Cooloola Coast in Queensland we provide professional training that is nationally recognised. Our clients include National Parks and Wildlife Service, numerous mining companies, Essential Energy, Essential Water, School of the Air, various government departments and private clients. We are able to offer training in any mainland Australian state.


The Director of Training at Australian 4WD Academy is Michael McCulkin. Michael spent 20 years with NSW Police and was an instructor with the Police Driver Training School for eight years. Michael is well known as the foremost trainer in the area with extensive experience, a love of the Australian outback and the ability to convey his knowledge to others.


For 25 years we also owned and operated the multi-award winning outback tour company, Tri State Safaris, which was based in Broken Hill. If you are planning an outback adventure tour why not tap into our specialist knowledge and join us for some essential training before you set off into the vast expanse of Australia's outback.

Delivery Options

This training provider offers courses in the following delivery modes:

Offsite training

The RTO can deliver in-person training using facilities at-or-near a client's workplace, or else in a mobile manner (eg. delivery at a regional/remote location for a specific period or for a specific training course). Also known as 'workplace', 'mobile', 'on-client-site' delivery.

Services

Australian 4WD Academy is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #91225) which conducts nationally accredited driver and rider training. As well as specializing in Four Wheel Drive and All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) courses, we also offer defensive driver training courses.

Class sizes are typically 4 to 6 persons and larger groups can be catered for. Individual one-on-one training can be arranged with costs available on application.

All of our courses are normally held at either the Cooloola Coast or Broken Hill, but a course can be conducted at your location.  We often travel throughout NSW or QLD to locations more suitable to our students or their employers requirements. Contact us for further information or bookings.

Financial Assistance

The federal, state and territory governments provide financial incentives and support for vocational education and training students to help them gain the skills required to secure and maintain rewarding and sustainable employment.

There are programs for all kinds of students; apprentices and trainees, new job starters, those re-entering the workforce, retraining for a new job or upgrading their skills for an existing job.

Subsidised Training

State and territory governments dedicate funds to reduce or, in some cases, fully cover tuition fees for VET students who wish to study certain courses.
Unfortunately, this Training Provider does not currently deliver any subsidised training.

VET Student Loans

This RTO does not currently offer VET Student Loans for any approved courses. A VET Student Loan is a capped loan from the Australian Government to help you pay your tuition fees. Your initial loan debt amount (loan and loan fee, if applicable), plus indexation, must be paid back once you start earning over a certain amount. Compulsory repayment threshold information is available on the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website.
