Training Provider Summary

The Centre for Excellence in Rail Training Pty Ltd (CERT) has a truly international focus on quality in the rail industry. CERT is owned by Engenco a public company with holistic rail and heavy industry capability.

CERT is an Australian business with local teams consisting of highly skilled and experienced training facilitators, administrators and managers.

All trainers hold the mandatory TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification and have extensive industry backgrounds and experience. CERT trainers maintain their industry currency ensuring they lead the way in delivery of rail infrastructure, operations, safeworking and general safety programs.

CERT currently provides training and assessment services to organisations including, but not limited to, Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), Transport for NSW, Metro Trains Melbourne, V/Line, Queensland Rail, Laing O’Rourke, Country Rail Network, John Holland Group, Fluor Rail Services, Brookfield Rail, Thiess, Public Transport Authority of WA, Aurizon, Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals Group Limited (FMG). We also work with international clients overseas including Standard Gauge Railway Kenya, Malaysian Rail, National Transport Safety Commission Indonesia and Etihad Rail (UAE).

CERT continuously develops our trainers professionally to ensure their skills and knowledge are diverse to ensure flexibility for the client and portability of skills across a range of industry disciplines including AQF qualifications, safeworking, enterprise and specialist vocational credentials.

CERT offices and trainers are strategically placed – ensuring a national coverage of Australia and its regions with the ability and experience to work internationally, ensuing compliant, responsive and cost-effective services.

We support a Quality, Compliance and Development Department consisting of eight rail and vocational education and training professionals to support CERT’s national training teams and our clients’ needs.

How do I choose?

Delivery Options

This training provider offers courses in the following delivery modes:

Face to face training

In-person training delivered at the RTO's site. Also known as 'on-campus', 'in-class', 'traditional face-to-face', 'on-RTO-site' delivery.

Offsite training

The RTO can deliver in-person training using facilities at-or-near a client's workplace, or else in a mobile manner (eg. delivery at a regional/remote location for a specific period or for a specific training course). Also known as 'workplace', 'mobile', 'on-client-site' delivery.

Flexible learning

Includes online courses and courses by correspondence. Also known as 'external studies'. Given the nature of our industry coverage, most courses have aspects where practical face-to-face interaction as mandated under Australian Training Packages.

  • Distance (training available via correspondence)
  • Attendance required (training includes some fixed-time online lectures or fixed time class components)
  • Self-paced (training has no set class times of set submission dates)

    CERT's students can expect flexibility in our training and assessment methods which do not compromise on industry safety and work ready requirements.

Mixed mode training

A combination of various delivery modes. Also known as 'mixed delivery' which ensures CERT has a learning strategy which suits most students and employers.

Facilities

Given the critical nature of requirements for workers in rail and heavy industry, CERT ensures that where training is delivered at our various campauses, there is access to practical areas which reflect critical aspects of the workplace as required under assessment requirements set down by Commonwealth authorities.

Examples of facilities include rail corridor panels where students gain practical experience in track maintenance and construction.

CERT also partners with external organisations including enterprise and heritage rail organisations where students have the opportunity to particpate in actual industry projects as part of training and assessment.

As a result of these learning experiences, CERT graduates enter the workplace productive from day one.

Financial Assistance

The federal, state and territory governments provide financial incentives and support for vocational education and training students to help them gain the skills required to secure and maintain rewarding and sustainable employment.

There are programs for all kinds of students; apprentices and trainees, new job starters, those re-entering the workforce, retraining for a new job or upgrading their skills for an existing job.

Subsidised Training

State and Territory governments dedicate funds to reduce or, in some cases, fully cover tuition fees for VET students. VET Student Loans

This RTO does not currently offer VET Student Loans for any approved courses. A VET Student Loan is a capped loan from the Australian Government to help you pay your tuition fees. Your initial loan debt amount (loan and loan fee, if applicable), plus indexation, must be paid back once you start earning over a certain amount. Compulsory repayment threshold information is available on the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website.
