Training Provider Summary

Carey Training Pty Ltd is a 100% Aboriginal wholly owned and operated Registered Training Organisation who is dedicated to providing training, employment and upskilling opportunities for both Aboriginal and mainstream Australians.

It was established in 2002 primarily to service the training and workforce development needs of Aboriginal Australians, but increased interest in our training services from mainstream employers and job seekers has seen significant growth and both the broadening of our operations and subsequent client base.

The company is currently very active in preparing both Aboriginal and mainstream people for work in the civil construction and resources and infrastructure industries in metropolitan, regional and remote parts of the country.

Much of our training activity relates directly to employment opportunities presented to job seekers and existing workers and is designed around the needs of the workplace as well as the community. In both metropolitan and remote locations the job seeker is trained on community infrastructure projects under the supervision of our qualified personnel. Wherever possible the training activity is also integrated with the workforce needs of companies operating locally.  Recent examples of this in SA include our current contract with BHP Billiton to deliver pre-employment programs for Aboriginal job seekers under their Aboriginal Participation Program until 2016. At this point in time, during 2013 and 2014, we have delivered 3 programs for around 45 Aboriginal participants and have achieved outstanding employment outcomes. Other examples include pre-employment training for job seekers who have secured employment with Baulderstone on the Southern Expressway, the Northern Expressway, Seaford Rail Extension and on the major railway line infrastructure projects in the North of SA being conducted by Transfield Services. In 2014, we have also completed delivering pre-employment training to 56 Aboriginal job seekers in Darwin for Leighton Holdings and have achieved outstanding results with all but one of the participants being offered an employment opportunity.

Our civil construction training to upskill existing workers has also been implemented with a number of employers in the civil construction sector including Baulderstone (Lend Lease), York Civil, De-Construct, Theo Agelis Constructions, Prospect Contractors, Team Civil and Australasian Contractors, as well as a number of local Government Councils such as Renmark, Clare and Ceduna in SA.

We have also delivered pre-employment training to Indigenous job seekers under the WA Department of Training and Workforce Developments Participation – Equity, Participation – Work Readiness and Productivity Places Programs in remote and regional areas including Looma, Derby, Halls Creek and Esperance and other communities throughout the Pilbara, Kimberleys, Goldfields and Mid West regions.
